In my previous article, was our last stop Sandhamn in the Stockholm archipelago. Today we are on the navigation on Gotland. There are no luxury yachts for charter on Gotland, but many in Stockholm, so this is the way to go.

By Santahamina, is about a 24-hour drive to reach Gotland. This beautiful island, surprisingly unknown to foreigners, is a popular tourist destination in Sweden. The first time Swedish visitors often comment that it feels like abroad, perhaps somewhere in the Mediterranean. Having grown up on Gotland, maybe I'm biased, but the medieval walled city of Visby paved windswept strong, may be populated landscape Faro, Gotland is truly a spectacular and fascinating place.

Visby, the only city on the island is very crowded in summer, and if you want an intense night life, which definitely did not check it out. "All" is clearly in Visby in Sweden sometime in July: celebrities, politicians and royalty equal. After mid-August, but most tourists are gone, so if you set your heart set on Visby, want to fight, but not the masses that a good time to visit it. September can also be beautiful, with summer warmth lingering well into the month. To the surprise of many waters around the island of Gotland is quite hot in the summer - it can reach 80F and more in August and sometimes way into September as well. It is a beautiful experience to swim when the water is warmer than the air yesterday, and then treat yourself to a hot chocolate or vin chaud afterwards.

But you can calm places with very few visitors to the island can also be found in July (with varying degrees, or the lack of nightlife). There are several other ports around the island are also worth a visit: Lickershamn (about 13 miles north of Visby), a small fishing village with a few beaches, restaurants and shops, and the highest rock formation (of which there are many) on Gotland called "Maiden". Lauterhorn at Faro (a small island north of Gotland, which has used Ingmar Bergman, domestic calls) over a large area with rock formations, an old Viking port, cycle hire and a restaurant, bar, cafe and shop. Fårösund, the northernmost village on Gotland, is a bit livelier, with a few restaurants and shops. Slite, on the east coast, is often overlooked by tourists, since they mainly known for its cement factory, but (the second largest city on the island of Visby) also has a beautiful sandy beach, tennis club, and a few shops and restaurants, but not much in the way of nightlife.

Katthammarsvik, further down the east coast, is an old fishing village with a locally famous seafood smoke house (try the smoked shrimp), several restaurants, cafes, shops and beaches. A little further along the coast lies Ljugarn, one of the most popular holiday destinations and with the most active nightlife on the coast. Ljugarn has a beautiful white sandy beach, a few museums and several restaurants, pubs and cafes. If you go all the way along the coast and head back up the west coast you can reach in Burgsvik, the southernmost village on the island. Burgsvik has a beautiful sandy beach, a few shops and restaurants, a farmers market every Saturday in summer, and some artisans with shops. Just south of Burgsvik is one of the most famous rock formations on Gotland, Hoburg old man (The Hoburg) One who, after an American friend, looks like Richard Nixon.

Gotland is also a popular destination cycling, and most towns have bike rentals (in Visby you can also rent a car) scooters and motorcycles, so if you see more than the coastal areas as a fun way, it does.

There are of course many more harbors and beautiful places to visit, both in the Stockholm Archipelago and Gotland, but these are some places to start, and I hope I have inspired you to the Baltic Sea on your next yacht charter vacation exploring.
